From closet chaos to mudroom magic in oakton, va
What was once a frustratingly narrow coat closet near the garage entry is now a beautifully functional mudroom, designed to meet the needs of a busy family. The original layout—with a single centered door—left much of the closet space inaccessible and underutilized. To open things up, we removed the wall and reimagined the area as an open, organized, and highly functional entryway. A solid wood bench with cubbies below offers a convenient drop zone or a comfortable spot for a quick shoe change. Ample hooks and baskets give every family member their own designated space—bringing order to daily comings and goings. Durable tiles inspired by classic encaustic patterns not only add personality but also stand up to the wear and tear of this high-traffic zone. We extended the same tile into the adjacent hallway, powder room, and laundry room to create a cohesive, well-defined “back-of-house” area that’s as stylish as it is practical.
