Client Experience

``David, I finally got to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Spent the last two weeks in our completely renovated condo and we couldn't be happier. You and your design team recommended great choices throughout and your construction team turned it into reality. Many, many thanks to you and your team for a wonderful finished product!``

Condo Renovation-
Kitchen, Master Bathroom, Guest Bathroom, Bedrooms & Living Areas

JDBG recently renovated an entire condo in Fairfax, Virginia that serves as a pied-a-terre for our Richmond-based clients. The condo was built in 1996 and still had its original kitchen and bathrooms intact. The layout of the kitchen was practical, but the stock cabinetry and laminate counters were dated, worn and lacked functionality. Likewise, both of the condo’s bathrooms needed to be completely modernized. With our top-to-bottom renovation, we upgraded the quality of the materials and elevated the design to align with our clients’ more contemporary tastes.

In the kitchen, new Shaker style cabinets in a soft gray finish are complemented by quartz countertops with subtle Calacatta Gold veining. We increased functionality by using full overlay cabinets with soft-close doors and full-extension drawers; we added useful accessories such as roll-outs, tray dividers and a trash/recycling center. The new undermount stainless steel sink is a stylish upgrade from the old enameled drop-in sink and the full height textured subway tile is a huge improvement over the old four inch high laminate backsplash. The kitchen pantry received new shelving and the adjacent laundry/utility room even got a facelift with luxury vinyl tile flooring and new paint.

A rarely used drop-in tub occupied a large footprint in the condo’s primary bathroom. Our clients preferred to have a generous walk-in shower, so we reconfigured the layout and eliminated the bathtub altogether which also allowed space for a freestanding linen cabinet. We paired large scale porcelain floor tiles with marble penny rounds in the custom-tiled shower and storage niche. The timeless marble, white, and gray palette is accented with brushed nickel fixtures and accessories providing the owners with a stylish, sophisticated bathroom.

In the guest bathroom, we used complementary finishes that coordinate with the rest of the condo. The hexagon floor tiles are well suited for the uniquely shaped bathroom and the porcelain perfectly captures the appearance of classic Carrara marble. Elongated white subway tile is paired with a simple band of marble accent tile and two marble shelves complete the look. The deep modern bathtub provides the owners with an option if they ever want to take a long relaxing soak.

In addition to tackling the kitchen and bathrooms, we gave new life to the rest of the condo with a fresh coat of paint, new carpeting, and updated light fixtures throughout. The updated palette is both modern and sophisticated and elevates this condo into a welcoming weekend retreat for our clients.
